He will not report it as he knows that he was trying to do something that illegal. It's like someone meeting to buy drugs and then gets ripped off buying a gram of baking powder...he is not going to the police to report that either for the same reason.
Vigilante justice is not the way to go about things for many reasons. Often the wrong person is targeted and it is a case of mistaken identity. Sometimes those giving "justice" commit worse crimes than the original one.
These thugs simply trolled the internet to look for a victim that they thought they could legally beat up for pleasure. Their intent was not to make society a better place.
Nothing but premeditated assault- plain and simple.
Happens all the time to gay men who answer online ads and then show up at houses where they are robbed and often beaten up. Many are married and never report the crime. There is no difference in this case.
