You would be amazed at the amount of people in federal prison for conspiracy to commit, whatever. That's the kicker, the fed's step in and suddenly the planning of the crime is worse that the crime. Doesn't even matter if the crime was carried out, in fact you can back out of a crime and still be hit with conspiracy.
Fact is those guys conspired to commit enough crimes to face life in prison if the feds get involved. How's that for a backfire?
edit; not saying it wasn't a well deserved beat down but fuck man, they made the governments entire case by taking a fucking video. In effect bragging about their own crimes.
