Fin: as of 1997 survived by only 38,000. - conservation status - endangered
Humback: 80,000 humpbacks worldwide - conservation status - least concerned.

They are fucking around for the money they get with donations and to pick up girls. They are not "saving the whales." Whether or not it is illegal for the Japanese to do this, I do not know but that is a separate issue. This is not a whale saving issue by any stretch of the imagination.
