MONDAY, JULY 7: BE NICE TO NEW JERSEY WEEK
Profile America -- Monday, July 7th. There's one state that comedians seem to enjoy putting down more than any other -- so much so, that this has been proclaimed as ''Be Nice to New Jersey Week.'' It's a time to look beyond the jokes about the ''Joisey'' accent and the famous mosquitoes. President Grover Cleveland came from New Jersey, and long-time singing star Bruce Springsteen calls the state home. Two of the nation's oldest universities, Princeton and Rutgers, are located in New Jersey. The state ranks in the top 10 in the nation in the number of manufacturing sites and in payroll. The average worker in New Jersey brings home just under 44-thousand dollars a year. Of all the states, New Jersey has the highest population density about 1,144 people per square mile, compared to a national average of just over 80.
