I really didn't know that - shit - I guess I've never had occasion to refer to anyone in the Caribbean as "black". What do you say then?
When I was in Africa recently, a Swahili speaker told me a story about a "Mzungu" (white) and apologized for the quote. I was like, who cares? It isn't really derogatory, and you do stick out. But I'll tell you they have no worries about being called black - they get more pissed off if you miss their tribe. My experience, people have an endless capacity to split themselves up and always seem to be the better one.
