well, just going by all the protection, they both seem about equally brutal. but i think the fact that they allow fighting in hockey, the puck is flying around at 80mph and they are all swinging sticks like mad makes me veer towards hockey as being the tougher sport.
but i think long term football is tougher, concussions are a serious issue.
not that the league is taking it seriously. they may claim to, but the simple fact that helmets fly off during the game proves they are not. a helmet that provides adequate safety won't come off in the exact situation it is designed to protect against.
