As someone who once adminned a forum that encouraged the use of fake nicks while having several dozen of my own therein, I find the practice you speak of as disengenuine.
Almost as disengenuine as a business forum where it is common knowledge amongst its veteran participants that multiple nicks not only do exist, but that there are individuals who even go to ridiculous lengths of flaming themsevles to promote products in posts and signatures.
I believe this practice is referred to as
Fucking Around & Program Discussion.
