Dogs don't recognize themselves in a mirror, they look at their mirror image and think it's another dog but get confused because there's no scent.

Anyway I don't know the episode but Brian passes a mirrored closet and sees himself in the mirror, thinks it's an intruder and violently launches himself repeatedly at the mirror image of himself - i ended up on the floor crying with laughter, must have been for 10 minutes, a handful of times a year do i laugh that hard at anything.
