I'm not one of those who believe God will interfere in the free will of others simply because I ask him to do it. One reason he doesn't influence the outcomes of sporting events is free will: all the decisions made on the field are made by men who have it. I believe those players can pray for clarity in seeing opportunities, and God would answer, but I do not believe He would interfere with the performance of other players by making them play a poor game or anything similar to that.
Free will is also the reason bad things happen to good people: true free will wouldn't exist if God only allowed good and stopped bad, because that would interfere with the free will of "bad" people. A person who uses their free will to do bad things often impacts the innocent.
