It's not solely the tubes - I agree with the rest of what you said. But I'd say 80-90% of the blame is on the overwhelming glut of free/illegal content out there.

Yes, the industry itself has become dysfunctional and lacking innovation, but I think that's a small percentage of the reason it's in decline.
