I'm white and speak the language some. On a crash course now. Basic skills will get you by. My wife is Japanese and works in the translation and writing side of things for Japanese companies. So I am fairly chained to the futon. ;)
I do business in the entertainment sector which is where the girls who fuck gaijin hang out the most. Majority of the girls, ladies etc steer clear. But roppongi and shibuya ladies like to party.
Understanding the culture goes a long way. And being extremely clean. Hygiene is more important than you can imagine.
