Lack of plot is a weak argument. Did Full Metal Jacket have a plot? I'll bet you liked that movie. Everyone does. There's all kinds of movies, and sometimes they don't have a plot. Maybe it's a character study, or just about a series of events, with a little symbolism thrown in.
It sounds like you have some kind of conventional criteria which needs to be met --A to B plot, more than two characters, etc.
If just showing an odyssey a character experiences is enough to hold the attention of an audience, then what's wrong with that? Trust me, you're not the lone genius who is right about Gravity -- you didn't even pick up on my HEAVY sarcasm in last night's response to your bad taste in movies.
