Rotten tomatoes is a guide, its a plus minus scale. So even if you thought it was watchable that is a positive score. So when shit bag movies like 42 come out and people feel guilted into enjoying it and ends up with a 80+ rating nobody questions it. Now watch that movie again and you will see an over dramatized bag of shit full of lies, exaggerations with some decent acting from Harrison Ford. They mangled an otherwise great true story.
J. Falcon, You're on the money man. Gravity wasn't that great, had little story, the action and effects took higher precedence which makes it watchable, but forgettable at best.

Exactly, it really means shit that this movie has such high ratings. I've learned not to trust critics opinions a long time ago. As for the general public, they view going to the movies like they do going to a theme park, they just want to be entertained.
