Cliff notes of the story:

The prompt was to write a story where the world has changed, and like jury duty, everyday people are randomly selected to kill criminals that have been given the death sentence.

My story is about a guy who has been called 7 times in two years. It has destroyed his life and sent him into some very dark places. When he gets his 8th summons he breaks. At the execution (which takes place on live TV), instead of pushing the buttons he pulls a knife and kills himself while the nation watches.
