Joshua bin Joseph, a.k.a Jesus, was the Military leader of the Nazarenes, an ultra-orthodox Jewish sect. When the Nazarene's spiritual leader, commonly referred to these days as John the Baptist, was executed, Joshua also took on the role as spiritual leader.
Coming from the Military point of view, Joshua realized the sects strict orthodox rules prevented the group from gaining enough followers to overthrow the local government and drive the Pagan Romans out of Palestine.
Thus, he began preaching tolerance and acceptance, in order to build sufficient force to achieve those military goals.
Funny how Christianity evolved from a bunch of Jewish Jihadists.
