This oft repeated idea of gleefully letting prisoners get punished by rape is ridiculous and offensive for some of those who have worked to reduce sexual violence in society. Firstly, there are a lot of people in prison for relatively minor or at least non-violent crimes, not to mention quite a few who are innocent of the crime they were convicted of. Is it fair to let people like these be anally gang raped and possibly spread HIV or other diseases to knowing that most of them are going to be released to the community again?

Imagine that you had a young son or brother or nephew or cousin who wasn't a hardcore criminal or gang banger but who fucked up and did something stupid that he had to do a little state time for. Those are the kind of young men who are going to be victimized by older veteran jailbirds, gangsters and lifers. The whole prison for profit system is a pretty fucked up concept as there is an incentive for police and the justice system to put people away in prison for bullshit things like drug possession.
