You're right. They can do whatever they want with their billions. But treating your employees as slaves that you pay as low as you possibly can + deny them healthcare is not the way to go. Companies that treat their employees like a family member will survive the long game.
Wal Mart won't make it they keep up this kind of shit. So, they can do what they want -- but they're idiots for doing it and they're only hurting themselves in the long run.
My sister in law just left a producing job at a major agency in New York City after 10 years, because she's been doing all the work in her department and making the same wage for a long time. With what they spend in one day on a shoot with a celebrity for an ad she produces(and gets almost no credit), her boss could have given her a boost in salary to keep her there. She just found out they had to hire 2 people to do her job and they're already fucking shit up and costing more money to the company. This is what happens when you treat your employees like some piece of meat that makes money for you.
Actually, I was in a similar position myself years ago, and left with a group of other really talented people but unappreciated people. That company is circling the drain right now.
There's nothing wrong with making billions -- but don't be evil, or shit will catch up with you.
