Prior to Lavabit shutting down, the NSA was granted a court order that forced the owner of the service o hand over the site's SSL key, so they could spy on Snowdens email exchanges. Lavabit responded to this demand in a very untimely manor and turned it over as printed text on 11 pages in 4pt text.. The SSL key was 2,560 characters,

When the judge ordered them to turn it over in digital form, Lavabit then shut down
