I'm a vintage guy, so I'm biased - but Playboy was excellent in the 1970s when they went full-frontal but before they got into the 1980s over-airbrushing and teased hair stuff. If you like the retro look those sets still hold up today IMO.
I have a big collection from the 1960s & 70s, and it's funny... the articles and other writing in them is 10x more intelligent than "legit" news magazines today. Great interviews with politicians, artists, writers, celebrities, bona fide literature in their short fiction features, quality travel writing, etc. You really could "read it for the articles". Seriously, thumb through a few Playboys from the early 1970s and you'll see how dumbed down our culture's gotten where a girlie mag from that era is way smarter than any mainstream mags (outside of Harpers, et al) today.
Then in the 90s they tried to modernize, skew younger & go the Maxim route (but with actual tits), but they just had no idea how to do it. Alienated their original audience and never connected with the younger one, it's been a train wreck for years now.
