I'm not sure the guy really did anything besides being a punk. At the most he would deserve beats for being a punk, but definitely not to die or be paralyzed

He contributed to the situation, what do you expect. It sucks mightily for him but that's the risk you take riding a bike in a pack, or riding a bike at all really. There is a reason they're called "temporary Americans" or "organ donors". A pack of hyenas menaced an elephant and got trampled as it fled.. That's the price you pay and the risk you take. Actions have consequences. You can't expect many people to sympathise with the hyenas harassing and menacing people. It's only a relative shame it didn't happen to the brake checker instead who would have deserved less than zero sympathy and possibly a darwin award.
