Then a Roku might not be best for you. For streaming Netflix has more than any of the other channels you might find on Roku. It might still be good for you if you watch a lot of YouTube, but I'm going to guess that's not something you do.
There are a lot of channels, but I'd guess that most Roku users use Netflix 90% of the time. Just a guess, but I'd be willing to bet on it.
If you have a media server with your own stored content, then have at it. But without Netflix, Roku is pretty much worthless...at least here at my house. Hulu, Amazon and Pandora get a little bit of play, but Netflix is the streaming king.
Check out Google's Chromecast. It wasn't exactly what I had hoped for, but it can stream ANYTHING you open in your laptop / desktop / smartphone Chrome Browser to your TV. Costs $35 and works like a charm.
