Now the internal debate is Coke Zero versus flavored coffees. Coffee has been around for ever and doesn't have much in the way of bad press and everyone agrees that the chemical soup that is diet pop is probably not good for you.

Not talking about the raw calories. Basic refined table sugar causes insulin resistance, which can make your fat cells pick up more fat and hold onto it longer -- among many other things. I can't out cut sugar out totally, but in the past I seemed to get most of it from my coffee.
Benign is the opposite of what sugar is.
