Are all the profiles fake?

I registered (due to clever advertising) a month or so ago and since then I have been getting 3 or 4 private messages and invitations to meet daily.
Of course before I can proceed I would need to upgrade my account which I have no intention of doing but, are all these people "contacting" me fake?
If I did login to one of these fake accounts, what would I find?
