by the way op you describe the most extreme of republican, the lunatic fringe, how much say they have in the party today i don't know. they are the kind of people who shot giffords or maybe even hernandez who quite really tried to pick off obama in the oval office after somehow being convinced he was the devil incarnate. he happened to be out of d.c. at the time.
between 2002 and 2007 you really had to be politically aware back then to realise how bad your government had been behaving with all the scandal, all the war. i don't lay the blame for all of america's problems at the door of obama, if anyone it is probably nixon or carter, going way back to the root of the extremely sloppy leadership someone somewhere that has made the united states what they are today.
