I like to take the united states searches for a keyword, then multiply it about about 2.5. That usually gives me a good estimate for what I end up seeing in my webmaster tools search analytics. However, that doesn't include the loads of other keywords you get impressions for while simultaneously ranking for that one big "main" keyword.
edit: That's just an estimate I've seen with my seo campaigns. My x2.5 method most likely isn't accurate for other keywords, so take it with a grain of salt.
