no, you get the phone at a nice discount when it comes time to upgrade. You spend 200 bucks and get the best phone and sell it for 400 and buy the next new phone at a discount next year for 200 or 300 (retail 700) and keep doing that.
So each year you make a couple hundred bucks and keep getting the newest phone at the same time.
