Could you imagine someone having the same argument in any other situation? Some kid somewhere is stung by a bee, and he's deathly allergic to them, and sure enough dies. A bunch of people are discussing it and wishing their was something they could do about it. Someone stands up and says "If only there weren't any allergies", someone else stands up and says "YEAH! And also if there weren't any bees". Like these two people truly believe their adding to the discussion by envisioning some magic fairy land of rainbows where there aren't any allergies or bees.

that's a horrible comparison... not even close to the same thing.
A better one would comparing gun deaths to your northern neighbours. Our population is a lot lower so that has to be considered of course, but even per capita its way lower. Why? We have lots of guns here too! Not handguns though, not automatic weapons though.. It's pretty hard to own/buy one of those in this country both legally and illegally. Not impossible, but hard enough to help keep the numbers down. It wasn't always that way, but we made laws to help.
I'm not saying we have things perfect here, they aren't, but making them more available in the US obviously is not working.
