While there may be a lot more potential buyers or bigger market for mainstream porn, there is also an ocean of that content on every tube site for free. If you have a more mainstream porn itch that needs to be scratched, you can do it fairly easily without spending a dime on a porn membership if you're a traditional adult business model.

Myth. This may have been true in 2010 or 2011 but now most fetish terms show the same tubes on the first page in Google. Worse since there were so few people interested in the content already you can't make it up on volume potentially as you can in bigger niches. Once that small pool starts buying less you are screwed.
