I'm not ready to give the FSC/PASS a free pass on Rod Daily and the new HIV+ case(s).
The FSC gave the industry rosy assurances after their first Moratorium that all was clear:
We now know that Rod Daily was already infected, he was simply not showing up HIV positive yet on his test.
And now we have a third (confirmed) HIV+ case, in less than a month, so the FSC was finally forced to call for another Moratorium (remember, not because of Rod Daily either).
That this occurred should be chilling to everyone in the adult industry, especially the performers.
Yet, instead of asking questions, and demanding answers, you have some people only anxious to know when they can get back to business as usual.
If nothing else, this thread exposed that there are adult companies shooting untested talent, and in some cases HIV+ talent, while most of the straight industry embraces a system that is more about stopping spread of an infection AFTER it is detected (and weeks could go by before it is detected, and may have already spread), and not about preventing the infection in the first place (which is what condoms are intended to do).
The matter is further complicated by the vested interests involved at the FSC. Their financial ties to one testing service screams of a potential conflict of interest, yet many people are willing to shrug it off, just as they shrugged off the many shortcomings at AIM (we all know that did not end well, although I feel that we didn't learn many lessons).
We need an independent adult industry organization that truly puts performers health and safety first. I honestly feel that the FSC has failed on that, especially with the influence operating PASS has upon their actions (you only need to look at how they handled Cameron and Rod differently to understand this).
Of course, when you have talent agencies reportedly serving as fronts for escort services, and lots of industry performers apparently actively participating in it, the conditions are not exactly good for the industry to finally get it's act together (there is no moratorium on pornstar escorting that I am aware of).
With porn "business as usual", under the current way things are being operated, it is not if, but rather when the next HIV+ case occurs, and the infection is spread, before the next, and the next, and the next moratorium are called.
And let's please not avoid the subject any longer, "business as usual" also means we keep admitting what is known as "crossover" talent (those who shoot straight and gay, with condoms and without, and maybe even escort on the side).
More likely we will continue to be an extremely divided industry. It's too bad that the public face of the industry is mostly represented by those that put profits before people.
Nonetheless, I want anyone reading this to know that there are many wonderful people in the adult industry, I love the work I am doing, and I will continue creating adult erotica (independently).
I 100% support a safe and healthy adult industry.
