Yeah, I know that article is about intravenous drug users. Because they weren't sure if ANYTHING could stop HIV when it's directly injected into the blood. If you read through the article you'll see that they already tested, approved and are using it to stop HIV through sex. (and also as a treatment for Hepatitis)
This article was about how it seems to be about 50% effective at stopping even direct injection into the blood stream of HIV!
As for consistent use....yeah. I would think that we would all want to be taking this pill everyday! I already take a handful of vitamins every morning. Taking an HIV preventative along with it wouldn't be a big deal at all.
And most women already take a birth control pill every day and vitamins, etc...wouldn't be that big of a deal.
Of course...the drawback is the price. About a grand a month for the pills.
Thanks big pharma.
But if a group were to get together on behalf of the industry and offer a pharmacy a huge bulk of buyers...perhaps the price would go down. But keep in mind that all the "Industry Testing" clowns have taken that same concept and figured out a way to charge more than double for the testing they do now (it's $59 with an order from my doctor to Lab Corp right here in Vegas)
So they would probably figure some way to get a bulk rate and then jack it back up to pad their own pockets.
Also...I wonder if perhaps it could be covered by insurance?
The drug is marketed as "Viread" and the active ingredient is Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF or PMPA)
