That is the point spread, which is set by Vegas. It basically means in this case that the odds makers believe that Denver has a decided edge on winning, based probably on past performance at home but also for the presence of Peyton Manning on their team, as well as a few other changes they made in the off season.
It also means that for anyone picking the Broncos, that they have to win by 9 points or more for that pick to be correct in the pool.

Correct. But because of the spread, even if they lose, as long as they don't lose by more than 8 points it's still a win for you.
