Only if zero (no one) sale all day, no performer would keep there. And they wait 6-12 months before to join a new site, to make sure it will not collapse. 80% of the new cam sites fail in the first 6-12 months, while spending money to get traffic and waiting models to gain trust to signup on unknown company they're not sure will pay or have traffic. In 2013, there is no shortage of performers (as in 2008, for example): it is enough a "minimum" of traffic to have performers stick online. In the "post mfc" era, where (unlike before), is normal for so many new girls/studios to keep open many sites in splitcam, also while naked and play, even if getting as low as $30 a month (or $1 a day) per site. Each open site it is a small extra with no effort, better than nothing.
The new mfc performer accounts end up forgotten and lonely in last page with low camscore in matter of days, so they need other sites anyway. The top mfc models in first page (mostly registered years ago, not new) make $10,000 a week, we know. But these sales are just a dream for the 99% of other new performers. Is like saying: "So Bieber make $$ as singer, I sing too, I will do same $$". Chaturbate it shuffles new and old performers in first page, at top, making easier for new performers to get noticed (than in mfc). Also 2-3 pages of performers, not 25 as in mfc.
Streamray even offers to pay lower % in exchange of be at top of first page - the visibility it is frustrating for performers (as much as google ranking for webmasters), so a performer may prefer to be in top of a small site, than in 20th page of the biggest sites.
PS: Perhaps not everyone knows that chaturbate pays filipina performers 30% only, unlike 50% of everyone else. That's 20% more for chaturbate
