What did they think they were going to do when enlisting - hand out puppies to kids and kill evil Nazis? It's not like this is the 1st (or even the 20th) totally questionable foreign intervention the USA has enacted under dubious motives. You sign up for the American military, expect to possibly go to shitty places, kill people for stupid reasons, and meddle in other cultures' affairs. That's how it's always always been since the days of the Indian Wars, Spanish American War, the list goes on and on and on....
