I paid out of pocket for my heart surgery some years back. Sucked, but I did some math and discovered that if I had used COBRA and gotten on a plan from my previous employer I would have paid even more and still been stuck with out of pocket expenses. It makes you sad when a doctor casually says lets get another MRI when it's multiple thousands of dollars out of your pocket. We had a real chance to have single payer and the Dem's wussed out and caved. Really needs to be revisited if we want insurance to go down. And please don't say if it was left to the free market it would go down. We know it doesn't.
