i know of many local dangerous men (as in new zealanders and some australians) who are still alive and are living fufilling lives after reforming, the mob are still doing a lot of that.

i think what he used to do provided an interesting speculation as to whether he really expected the police to pick away at the ice with ice picks to free the body of the murdered victim. imagine them, standing around an incased ice cubical picking away at ice to merely free someone who is already dead to ultimately help their investigation. i remember reading he was polish, but i remember certainly he had something to do with the mobs of new york city. if that wasn't wiseguy i don't know what was.
mike jones of jonestown, he was an absolute nutcase. in the end his cult commune all committed suicide and the aftermath was one of vile death when the fbi flew down to check it all out and clean up the mess he made then left for them, probably not to his complete realisation.
