Even if they could do it they would have to accelerate at over 82 miles per second per second (about 3.74 g's) until they got half-way there and then decelerate at -82 miles per second per second to land. While the rebels could handle it the passengers couldn't. Yes of course this is just a sci-fi movie but I guess I was expecting 2001 a space odyssey.
