Mike and all GFY.

First, I do not think that Mike has done anything illegal as it relates to Clover's medical information. Receiving information is not against the law, only disclosing it to unauthorized individuals.

Given the seriousness of the privacy violation and Mike's past efforts to protect patient privacy, when I asked who disclosed Clover's information to Mike, I hoped he would tell us if someone was leaking private medical records. But, if not, I expected him to say "nobody."

In many ways Mike and I are very alike in our views of this industry. We both see a hurting industry; and, we want to make it profitable and safe for all its participants. We both see needs that are not being addressed, try to speak out and increase awareness.

Like Mike, I have worked toward seeing a performer's group started which will offer group health insurance. I even went to SAG and spoke with them about the nature of their organization (costs, benefits and programs). I have even discussed the advantages and disadvantages of establishing the industry as a closed shop where performers come in healthy, stay clean and leave healthy.

Like Mike, I have tried to help people when they are down. Back when Chris Wilson? had his servers seized and was being prosecuted in Polk County, Florida because the gov't didn't like the soldiers' images he was hosting from Iraq and Afghanistan, I sent him hundreds of dollars. When Rob Black was broke, in jail and appealing his case to the Supreme Court, Lou Sirkin asked me to help Rob and I gladly donated around $1,500 to pay for the drafting and filing of the writ of certiorari. When many turned their backs on Rob, I didn't.

When adult retailers were under attack in either Rhode Island or Connecticut, I helped pay for research to refute the allegations concerning secondary effects. I contributed $10,000 to help overturn the adult toy laws in the Fifth US Court of Appeals. I helped Glen Chase at Encore Video when he was fighting to keep his store open in a City of San Antonio zoning case. I'm sure there are more that I just don't remember at the moment.

I was a founding member of the First Amendment Coalition of Texas which raised over a million dollars to fight censorship through lobbying efforts in Texas. I'm still a member of the group and contribute every month. I have contributed to fight 2257 and even help pay for incidental expenses of friends who either reported on or testified at the most recent trial in Philadelphia.

Like Mike, I am not known to be a friend of Manwin or any other pirate. I sent money to Adult King and have spoken to Nate many times. While I can not disclose discussions of the Board of the FSC, I can say that I vigorously lobby the board to take a more aggressive stance fighting piracy in all its forms.

If you need to know what kind of person I am and my passion for our industry, ask Lou Sirkin, Reed Lee, Greg Picconelli, Moose, or just about any major production studio. With forty years in the business this year, I have bought 8MM, magazines, VHS, DVDs or Blu-rays from many of them.

The difference between me and Mike is that we have taken different approaches to tackling the problems of our industry. Mike has chosen to blog and act as an independent voice for performers, webmaster, and producers. I chose to run for the FSC board and try to change the industry through its trade group. Our issues are basically the same: piracy, production/performer safety, censorship and government regulation, and the First Amendment.

Like Mike, I have been active on GFY for almost 10 years. At times we have agreed and at times we have disagreed. I have always tried to take a moderate approach, provide information and avoid direct conflict which I believe is basically unproductive. I save my direct confrontation for the people who don't respect our Bill of Rights. I hope that I have succeeded. I do consider many people on GFY to be friends and acquaintances.

As one Southern boy to another, I'd really like to have a direct dialog with you, Mike. I am interested in what you are talking about. I do reference what you are reporting in my conversations with others. And, I do consider your opinion to be worth listening to.

Again, I apologize if you think I hurt your feelings, doubted your integrity, or made you angry. It was an unfortunate choice of words and not my intention.

If you'd like to talk person to person, leave a post and I'll contact you through your website.

I hope today is a better day.
