Okay, well there is your first mistake. Russia Today is a state funded propaganda tool. It can have some interesting feature stories put any 'real' news is rather questionable.
In the UK, my friends and myself made is bit of a tradition to turn on Russia Today at midnight on New Year's Eve to see their annual reporting of the threat to turn off gas to the Ukraine. Mainly because the way it would be slanted was so ridiculous to be entertaining.
I remember at least one journalist quitting because the Kremlin was telling him want to and not report.
So, using them as the compass of how the LGBT community in Russia feels about their government isn't the most accurate of samplings.
Also, you aren't going to see that many street protests by LGBT activists in Moscow because last year the government banned 'pride' events for the next 100 years.
