You're right in that we wouldn't return to 2006. I doubt even if you could wave a magic wand at this point and shut down every tube and file locker that things would return to the way they were. Too much damage has been done. People (99%) expect porn to be free.
But it does have some value in justice and if you break up monopolies or near monopolies it tends to help others in the industry by creating increased competition.
If someone murders a family member throwing the person responsible in prison for life or having them put to death won't bring back your family member but still many people want to see justice regardless. Sure it's a pretty big leap going from murder to dealing in stolen content. This is just to make a point. Then again I bet there have been more than a few suicides in our industry related to content theft and the fallout from it. Thousands of people in our industry have been affected and I wouldn't rule it out.
