Usually it's because something's wrong with their box, or it's a health problem (if they haven't done it before). Did you change litters? Some cats are REALLY particular about their litters... I have one who if I change litter pisses on somethign RIGHT in front of me so I know he's mad.. Change his litter back and all is well. Do the litter test and if that's not it.. what' has changed in the house? Did you get a kitten? Have a baby? Anything? Barring all that, take your cat to the vet and get them checked for a urinary tract infection...
