And for the record, waking up one day in war time and making the decision to go fight because you believe deeply that you are fighting for what is right is "service". I respect that no matter who does it. Even the Taliban. That takes conviction and strength of character.
Waking up one day in peacetime and after seeing a Kid Rock commercial promoting the military and thinking "i'm tired of gang banging" or "i'm tired of being poor and will never afford college", or "i hate my parents, i'm out of here - that looks really cool!" etc and then going to join the military for the pay/training/education and student loans does not make you a better person than anyone else. It means you went and found gainful employment.
It certainly does not put you in the same class of people that willingly joined the military and willingly gave their lives for what was right and for the future, safety and security of others.
