These guys arent the sharpest tools in the shed for sure. I said things to theking and Rochard pops in saying "i didn't say that". I said things to Rochard and theking says he never said that. I quote Rochard and theking say's Rochard never said that and so on.

I get irritated with the "serving something bigger than yourself" rhetoric and implying they are better than others because of their service because they also put themselves in the same category of "i'm proud of my service" and "serving others" as those who enlisted to fight in WWI and WWII or the Civil War etc who enlisted specifically to fight for what they believed was right, to help others and did so knowing they weren't coming home... but made the choice to sacrifice themselves and their lives for others. Its insulting to those who actually sacrificed and made the choice to do so willingly as an adult.

It's all just the rhetoric that gets beat into their heads daily while in the military until they just can't separate fact from fiction anymore. That makes for an useful soldier. Rochard woke up every single day and did his job. He did his job, he was well compensated. He was never at risk. For that, he's so "proud" that it has to be mentioned daily. Then has the balls to ask "what have you done to be proud of" to smugly compare it to his non achievement. As if another 6 billion people across the world aren't doing the exact same thing.

I was just thinking....
My uncle joined the Navy.
He joined the Navy for the college tuition.
He was so well paid and had so much free time, that he raced motorcycles professionally while serving in the Navy.

If he would have ever said any of the things said in this thread, i would have beat the shit out of him. Luckily, he's a bright guy and loves to laugh about his time in the Navy and how good he had it.

And has been pointed out... these guys will spend their lives "proud" of a non accomplishment where in many parts of the world its compulsory.

It's fucking insane that people who have done nothing in their lives that's remotely athletic, like theking thinks it take an exceptional human being to wake up at 5:30 or to run a 8 minute mile. The whole world is full of people that wake up and do it for work and for fun. Or that its such a great honer to get cornered by a military recruiter trolling Wallmart parking lots for kids who live below the poverty line.
