I don't know where you are based but I spent more than my share of time in around Fruitvale station area and other parts of Oakland. I won't say there weren't times that it wasn't comfortable and I witnessed more crimes at Fruitvale than I have pretty much anywhere else. Clearly, I am not male but if it is as all as bad as you suggest then a white woman on her own and particularly at night should have negative results too.
