Toker, hit Start -> Run -> type "msconfig" (no quotes)
Go to the Startup tab and unclick anything that you don't need. Most of these fuckers use their scripts to change registry settings and put their crap on auto-start at bootup.
The last one I had after reviewing in my Startup was something like ****17.exe (forget what the **** was... nffs maybe?)

Also Start -> Search -> All files and folders -> type "hosts" (no quotes again)
You'll find a hosts file most likely in your system32 folder. It won't have an extension. Open it up in a text editor (like notepad) and check it out. Most likely you'll find that MSN, Google, Yahoo and other search engines are being redirected to CoolWebSearch.
Just erase those lines or put # marks in front of them and save the file (again with no extension) and reboot your machine so the changes take effect.

Most importantly, go download AdAware (it's free) and run it a few times. Have it delete *everything* that it finds. If the bug is really dug-in, you might have to run it and reboot as many as 4 times before it gets everything clean.

Overscore - you're an idiot. Things can be and are installed without the user ever SEEING a little screen asking them to accept or click "ok". Just from surfing, you don't even have to download programs packed with spyware.
