I went through boot at PI, infantry school on Camp Geiger, then was stationed with 2/8 also on Camp Geiger (small base next to Camp Lejeune in NC). Eventually I was transfered to AITS, "Advanced Infantry Training School". It was a school, no weekends, and best of all no going on floats.
Not that I am afraid of ships or water, just didn't sound like a lot of fun to me - being crammed in a ship for months at a time. Pass.
