For the last several years we have heard sponsors bragging about getting great type ins from watermarks on tubes. Yet when it comes to those same watermarks on the affiliate content "Ohhhhh! No one types in that tiny url. Don't worry about it! It's probably less than .0001% of sales!"

If a sponsor gets X ratio an affiliate can probably expect something like "X*3" all other things being equal. It's a decent rule of thumb.
fwiw, tubes = 1% typeins. So you get 100k surfers, 1k will type in, rather than use your aff link - but!!! the actual advertising/banners/text around tube vids are VERY shitty, which personally I believe 'forces' the type-in more from a tube, so I'd feel confident saying less than 1% of your traffic types in a watermarked url.

To me, that's just part of the symbiotic relationship. Sponsor gives me content, somewhere to send joins, I send joins and get paid - win-win, when you factor in the not unreasonable at all factor that a lot of content will get stolen/shared/hotlinked/etc - bit unreasonable of me as an aff to get moody about a site putting a wm on their content.
