I wouldn't doubt overall 1:500 ratios for a sponsor. You have to remember they get the sale if there is no affiliate cookie or other tracking in place. Then you have to consider that usually sponsors have urls on all the promo material. With this later point it's funny how most affiliates didn't catch on. For the last several years we have heard sponsors bragging about getting great type ins from watermarks on tubes. Yet when it comes to those same watermarks on the affiliate content "Ohhhhh! No one types in that tiny url. Don't worry about it! It's probably less than .0001% of sales!"
If a sponsor gets X ratio an affiliate can probably expect something like "X*3" all other things being equal. It's a decent rule of thumb.
