Where the cult comes in, is the people of AA and NA denying that to get you into the cult and brainwash. Prefferably soon while you are weak from the ravages of addiction, esspecially alchohol your body and mind will be depleted enough that they know if they pull you in now, you are open to program more now than at any other time in your life. Hence the 90 meeting in 90 days. Also the AA success rate at only 3 months out is less than 1%. But they wil never mention that, AA has killed 100's of thousands of people by taking over and controlling the detox industial complex, and preventing science from entering into the equation and conversation. A huge massive class action lawsuit needs to be brought against them to stop this, but people in the US love religion and cults unfortunetly.

Anyway, it might be different in the UK
