Charles Mingus was a great jazz musician...one of my favorite Mingus tunes, "Goodbye Porkpie Hat", is from the Blues and Politics album:
The above video was made just a few years before Mingus died from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) at 56 years old.
Mingus did some excellent collaborations with Miles Davis in the 50's:
