It could have been. I grew up in a small redneck town and this kind of thing just didn't happen there. At first nobody at school knew what was going on, but when she started to show the baby bump it was obvious. I remember the school considered expelling her because they thought the other girls would be jealous and get knocked up. In the end she had the kid and missed the last month of her junior year then came back in the fall as normal. It caused quite a ruckus when she went out for softball and her now husband brought their baby to see mom play.
